Senator Bill Larkin Secures Funding for Local Libraries

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced that he has secured funding through the New York State and Municipal Facilities Program for three libraries in his district.  Cornwall Public Library, Moffat Library and Monroe Free Library will each receive $50,000 in funding to assist with capital projects. 

·         The grant for the Moffat Library will be used to restore and expand their historic 1887 building.  The Library was forced to abandon the building after it was damaged by Hurricane Irene.

·         The grant for the Monroe Free Library will be used to design, construct and install a new circulation desk, work stations and a help desk in the Children’s Room.

·         The grant for the Cornwall Public Library will be used to purchase and install acoustical canopies in both the children’s area and in the circulation area to assist with noise mitigation.

“Libraries are near and dear to my heart,” said Senator Bill Larkin.  “They are an integral part of our communities and everyday they impact countless numbers of people.  Not only do they lend books and movies, but they allow access to the internet and newspapers to those who otherwise would not have it and they provide a whole host of educational programs, lectures and social activities to the community.  Libraries touch people’s lives in an immeasurable way and we need to support them in their efforts,” said Larkin.  “These grants will allow each of the libraries to expand their presence in the community and offer their patrons a more enjoyable experience.”
