SENATOR NOZZOLIO TO SPEAK AT WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA EVENT AT THE SAMPSON VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY

Senator Mike Nozzolio will join with local veterans, community leaders and the families and friends of those buried at Sampson for the annual "Wreaths Across America” service on Saturday, December 12^th at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus. A holiday wreath will be placed on the grave of each of the over 350 veterans interred at the cemetery. The event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

“Wreaths Across America is a powerful reminder that the freedom we enjoy as Americans is not free, but paid for with the courage, valor and sadly, the lives of thousands of our fellow Americans,” said Senator Nozzolio.

Through years of hard work and perseverance, Senator Nozzolio led the effort to create the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery and has continued his efforts to support the Cemetery and our honored veterans.  Senator Nozzolio recently announced a $2 million grant for the cemetery to complete the renovation of the former firehouse into an Interfaith Chapel and Welcome Center, as well as other lasting improvements to the cemetery.  

Members of the Marine Corps League, Memorial Day Detachment 468, will be coordinating this year’s “Wreaths Across America” ceremony at the cemetery. The local Marine Corps League branch is comprised of members from the surrounding Finger Lakes region.  The Marion American Legion will be providing the Color Guard.

Following the wreath laying ceremony, two commemorative plaques will be unveiled in memory of those who were lost in World War II and the Korean War.

The Wreaths Across America story began in 1992 when the Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine, initiated a tradition of donating and placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. Since then, the Wreaths Across America effort has expanded to cemeteries in all 50 States. Over 200,000 wreaths will be laid in honor at veteran’s gravesites across America this Saturday.
