Senator Sue Serino Launches First Annual ‘Season of Giving’ Campaign
HYDE PARK, NY—In an effort to make the holidays brighter for our neighbors in need, Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) announced the official launch of her ‘Season of Giving’ Campaign. The unique initiative includes a series of drives running through the Dutchess and Putnam County District Offices that will benefit local organizations in need of goods during the holiday season.
“There is no better time than the holiday season to give back to our local community. That’s why I’m partnering with community organizations committed to improving quality of life in our area,” said Senator Serino. “I know that we’re all stretched thin, especially this time of year, but it is my hope that community members will take a few moments to take part in the ‘Season of Giving’ and help improve lives of our neighbors in need.”
In Dutchess County, there are five ways to give back to the local community this holiday season:
- Toy Drive—Help make the holidays special for children in our community by donating a new toy to the Salvation Army’s Poughkeepsie Corps. December 1st – 20th; Drop off location: Poughkeepsie Corps, 19 Pershing Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601; 845-471-1210; Or Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office.
- Troop Collection Drive— Send a piece of home to our deployed troops this holiday season. Semper Fi Parents of the Hudson Valley works tirelessly to ensure that our deployed troops know that they are always on our mind and in our hearts. You can visit their website, http://www.semperfiparentshv.org/ or click here for a list of needed items. Ongoing; Drop Off Location: Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office
- Food Drive—The winter weather too often makes it challenging for seniors to get the resources they need. Help make the holidays a little brighter for area seniors by donating non-perishable food items to be distributed to local, low-income senior housing communities—December 1st-22nd ; Drop Off Location: Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office
- Book Drive— Give the gift of literacy to local children struggling with reading. Literacy Connections needs children’s books up to the 4th grade reading level for their Book Buddies program which provides children with a positive reading experience as well as a consistent adult role model by giving adult volunteers the opportunity to read one-on-on one to children in their school. Help send a child home for the holidays with a book! For more information, visit: literacyconnections.org. December 1st-22nd; Drop Off Location: Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office
- Drive to Benefit the Dutchess County SPCA—Help our furry friends in need this holiday season by donating to the Dutchess County SPCA. While always in need of dog and cat food, the DCSPCA is launching a 12 Days of Giving social media campaign. Check out Senator Serino’s Facebook from December 1st – 12th to see what items can most help the shelter. Not on Facebook?Click here for a link to their wish-list. December 1st – 12th; Drop Off Location 636 Violet Ave, Hyde Park, NY 12538; (845) 452-7722; Or Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office.
