SENATOR CROCI ANNOUNCES PASSAGE OF NEW YORK STATE LAW RELATING TO MAKE-UP CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS FOR MILITARY MEMBERS
New York State Legislation Will Allow Active Military Members to Take Make-Up Exams for Missed Civil Service Examinations Due to Active Duty Training
Hauppauge, NewYork – Senator Thomas Croci (R, C, I – Sayville), Chairman of the New York State Committee on Homeland Security, Veterans and Military Affairs announces historic legislation on behalf of active duty service members in New York State.
Senate bill S4852 amends the New York State Military Law to extend the option of taking a make-up Civil Service Exam to service members who miss an exam due to active duty training. The previous law allowed for makeup examinations for those members called to active duty service only, specifically excluding those who missed an exam due to active duty training.
“I am in a unique position as the Chairman for Homeland Security, Veterans and Military Affairs, which allows me to bring important veterans issues to the attention of my colleagues in the Legislature, as well as to the Governor,” said Senator Croci. “Our military members should not be penalized for missing civil service examination obligations because they have been called to active duty training. This new law will ensure they have the same opportunity to participate in the civil service process for employment as others do. I am proud to have sponsored this legislation in the Senate on behalf of our active military service members and I applaud the Governor for signing it into law,” stated Senator Croci.
The bill was passed in the Senate and Assembly during this past legislative session and was sent to the Governor’s desk where it was signed this week.
