Senator Serrano Focuses On Housing Services For Tenants During The Month Of November

Jose M. Serrano

Far too often, tenants are victims of harassment and are at risk of being displaced. Most of the time these individuals  are unaware that their rights are being violated. Our office recognizes this as a growing issue and we are dedicated to educating the residents of District 29 on the steps they can take to prevent tenant mistreatment.

This November my off-site constituent hours focused on bringing valuable legal resources into the community, specifically on tenant rights. There are an extended amount of organizations throughout New York City that are dedicated to helping residents keep their housing and recognize when they are being mistreated. It was our pleasure working with them to provide necessary information throughout the district.

My office partnered with Tenant Support Unit of the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA), the Mobile Help Center of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), Legal Services NYC and Legal Aid Society, several days this month to ensure that tenants had access to people and materials that would assist them with any current tenant-related situations. We also provided educational materials that would inform them of the rights they have as tenants in New York.
