Addabbo Event Collects More Than Four Tons of Electronic Recycling Waste
October 3, 2016
Howard Beach, NY (October 3, 2016) Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. was proud to recently host his annual e-waste recycling event in Rockaway, collecting more than four tons of old electronics to be safely disposed of.
The September 10 event, held at St. Camillus in Rockaway, took in 8,903 pounds of electronics waste including computers, printers, televisions, cell phones and other electronic equipment that could potentially be harmful to the environment if disposed of improperly. This year’s total, which was contributed from more than 100 households across the peninsula, surpassed the 6,300 pounds of electronics collected in Addabbo’s previous e-waste event held at the same location last September.
“The increase in electronic waste collected at this year’s recycling event in Rockaway truly shows the awareness my constituents have for our environment and how we can do our part to keep it clean and safe,” said Addabbo, a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee. “Events such as these that offer a more environmentally-friendly way of getting rid of electronics are a big part in making sure harmful chemicals do not end up in landfills, ultimately causing serious damage to the earth and the atmosphere. This recycling event, which I am proud to have hosted again this year, offers residents a responsible and legal way of getting rid of unwanted electronics, with the convenience of the disposal site being close to their homes.”
This event followed the Senator’s annual Spring Recycling Event in April, where more than 1,000 cars visited Forest Park to also dispose of unwanted items, including electronics.
“I am thrilled to see that more people took advantage of this wonderful opportunity this year and look forward to continuing to host this event in the future. I thank St. Camillus for their cooperation in allowing us to once again use their space, as well as the Lower East Side Ecology Center for partnering with me to collect harmful e-waste and keep it away from the environment.”
