Addabbo to Hold Rain Barrel Giveaway in Howard Beach
March 23, 2016
Howard Beach, NY (March 23, 2016) In partnership with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. will hold a rain barrel give away next month in Howard Beach.
On Saturday, April 30, Addabbo will join DEP in giving away 55-gallon rain barrels to residents of his 15th Senate District from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New York Families for Autistic Children (NYFAC), located at 164-14 Cross Bay Boulevard. Those who pre-register to receive one can pick up their rain barrels from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and any rain barrels that remain will be given out from 12 to 2 p.m. on a first-come first-serve basis.
“Using rain barrels, which are designed to catch excess rain water, can have a major impact on our environment if we all take advantage of their benefits,” said Addabbo, a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee. “Simple tasks such as watering plants or washing a car can be completed by using rain water already naturally available to us, rather than clean drinking water from our homes. Not only will this go a long way to help preserve water, but it will save homeowners money in the long run by not having to pay for water needed to carry out everyday household chores. I am proud to partner with DEP once again for this important community event and urge all my constituents to do their part to protect and preserve our environment.”
Earlier in the month, Addabbo will co-sponsor a separate rain barrel giveaway on Sunday, April 10, partnering with Assemblymembers Mike Miller and Cathy Nolan.
