Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing that he has invited local student entries in the New York State Senate’s Earth Day Poster Contest, a statewide competition that encourages student awareness of environmental issues.

To celebrate and honor Earth Day this year, the New York State Senate is sponsoring a poster contest for children in grades K-6. The theme of the Earth Day celebration is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” The winning posters will be displayed on Senator Golden’s website and the participants will receive a certificate acknowledging their participation.

“This poster contest encourages students to be creative and convey a real commitment to making the environment a better place. Teaching
children about the importance of recycling and waste reduction is critical as we face the environmental challenges of the 21st Century.  Lessons to be learned through his special contest include the need to reduce paper use, conserve water, recycle old clothes, reuse plastic bags, turn off electronic devices, and plant trees. I look forward to the participation of many students in my district,” said Senator Golden.

To participate in this year’s event, teachers or parents must submit an entry (preferably in a jpeg format) by April 4th, via Senator Golden’s website at www.golden.nysenate.gov. All entries require an on-line registration form to be completed and will be displayed on the website.  For more information, please contact (718) 238-6044.
