NYSEG reports 99 percent restoration as Murphy tours substation fire
May 27, 2016
LAKE SECOR, NY - When power went down this evening across northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties, Senator Terrence Murphy headed north to find answers. He toured the substation in Carmel where a fire had left tens of thousands without power and said the following:
"I've toured the Secor substation and met some great Utility Workers who were in the middle of restoring power. I'm happy to report that up to ninety-nine percent has been restored due to their expertise and hard work."
"I also spoke to the superiors at NYSEG who assured me we will work together to improve communications protocols with both my office and the public in the future.
"A special thanks to our Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department for their swift action in putting out a fire that could have been a potential disaster. Job well done, great work."
The fire began around 9:30 pm and power was almost fully restored by 1:00 am.
