Senator Young Secures More Than $648 Million in Education Aid For Local Schools

ALBANY – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- 57th District) has announced that schools in her district will receive a record amount of aid in the state budget, totaling $648,075,131, or a 5.57 percent increase.

This amount reflects a $34.1 million increase from last year’s budget, and the increase exceeds the statewide average.

Senator Young said the Senate put forward an aggressive education agenda that drove substantial investments into flexible Foundation Aid, boosting resources for her school districts. The enacted budget provides record funding for New York State schools, totaling more than $26 billion. The overall, year-to-year increase in school aid is approximately $1.1 billion, more than a four percent hike, and double the increase of virtually every other area of the budget.

“As I have said all along, my priority has been increasing support for schools in my district, and my focus on securing more education resources for our kids has paid off. The enacted budget places strong emphasis on high-needs districts such as mine, with every district I represent receiving a Foundation Aid increase of at least 2.74 percent. The Senate Republicans fought hard to secure another huge increase in school aid, because we know that it is highly beneficial for our children and our future,” she said.

“We strongly believe that this state aid for our students is necessary for educational success and long-term economic prosperity. Our children are our future and they must receive the best learning opportunities possible,” said Senator Young.
