Senate Approves Special License Plates for Kiwanis International

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) announces the State Senate has once again passed legislation that would make it possible for members of Kiwanis International to request special New York State license plates. The bill (S-2393A) would allow members to purchase distinctive plates bearing the words “Kiwanis International.” 

“Kiwanis International was established more than 100 years ago and its members perform service projects in communities across New York State,” Gallivan said.  “These special license plates will help promote the organization and recognize the many contributions of its members.”   

Under the legislation, any member of Kiwanis International residing in New York can be issued the distinctive license plates for an annual service fee of $25.  The charge is in addition to regular registration fees.

The bill now goes to the Assembly for consideration.  The Senate and Assembly passed similar legislation in 2015, but the governor vetoed it.  The new bill was amended to address concerns over the cost of designing the license plate.

Kiwanis International is a worldwide service organization with members in over 300 local clubs.  Members offer a wide range of service and leadership opportunities to people of all ages, devote millions of hours of volunteer service and raise nearly $100 million every year for communities, families and projects in 80 nations.
