(Evans, NY) – New York State Senator Chris Jacobs announced that Town of Evans resident and dedicated volunteer James Trembath has been selected as the 60th Senate District Veteran of the Month for January 2018. Jacobs made the announcement and presented Trembath with a proclamation at a ceremony at the Evans Senior Center where he led the effort to secure a special “Combat Wounded Designated Parking” sign.
“James earned his Paratrooper Wings in Vietnam where he served with great valor in the 101st Airborne Division,” said Senator Jacobs. “A recipient of the Purple Heart, the same courage and commitment he displayed in serving his country has been a hallmark of his service to his friends, family and community, making him an ideal choice for this honor.”
Trembath served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968 when he was honorably discharged. He is a long-time active member of the Newell-Faulkner Post 880 American Legion where he serves as the Public Relations Officer and a member of the Color Guard that leads the Eden Memorial Day Parade, the Eden Corn Festival Parade and numerous other ceremonies honoring veterans.
Trembath is recognized in his community for being a truly compassionate and caring neighbor who once a week takes older World War II veterans to lunch at the American legion Post. He is a daily fixture at the Southtowns Catholic School where he is known as the Grandpa Guard, greeting the children each morning and making sure the doors are safely locked at the beginning of the school day.
“I am very pleased to recognize James for his exceptional service to his country and his leadership in serving his community,” Jacobs concluded.
