SENATOR AMEDORE SECURES FUNDING FOR TAWASENTHA PARK IMPROVEMENTS
July 18, 2018
Senator George Amedore today announced he has designated the Town of Guilderland to receive a capital grant of $700,000 to facilitate upgrades and improvements to Tawasentha Park.
“Strong parks are crucial to a strong community, and the Town of Guilderland and the entire Capital Region are fortunate to be able to enjoy the natural beauty and amenities of Tawasentha Park,” said Senator George Amedore. “But like all things, upkeep and upgrades can be costly, so I’m glad to secure this funding for the Town to help make much-needed improvements that will enhance the experience of Tawasentha Park for residents and visitors.”
“Upon behalf of the Town of Guilderland and its residents, I thank Senator Amedore for his help in securing funding to improve Tawasentha Park, one of the area's premier parks. The funding will allow for terraced seating, better access and lighting, and other upgrades that would improve patrons' experiences at the Guilderland Performing Arts Center. The funding also will permit an expansion and modernization of the Park's large pavilion for children programs and community events, and larger and environmentally friendly restrooms. I particularly appreciate that Senator Amedore found time in his hectic schedule for an extensive tour of the Park's facilities and sharing his insights on the proposed improvements," said Town of Guilderland Supervisor Peter G. Barber.
The funding will be used to make improvements and update the Guilderland Performing Arts Center, located in the park, including: a newly oriented and paved facility access road, news skirting and paint on the amphitheater building, a new roof on the concession facility, tree removal and improvements to the hillside seating. In addition, lighting upgrades will be made and a new sound booth will be constructed, as well as a new patio area in front of the stage.
A new, environmentally friendly bathroom facility will replace the nearly 50-year-old facility at the lower picnic area and pavilion. Finally, the funds will help update the large pavilion area of the facility and bring it up to size to fit the demand for larger community events. Improvements to the large pavilion area include new paint, siding repair and electrical upgrades, as well as construction of a 30-foot addition and the rebuilding of the covered barbeque pit area.
“This project is really exciting for the Town of Guilderland and the entire Capital Region. Tawasentha Park is a jewel in our community, and these improvements will attract even more residents and visitors to enjoy everything the park has to offer,” said Senator Amedore.
