Addabbo and Miller will again co-host fall recycling event at Forest Park

It is that time of year again; when State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and Assemblyman Mike Miller will be hosting their annual fall recycling event at Forest Park this September.

On Sunday, September 23, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., crews will be at the Forest Park Bandshell to collect certain types of electronic waste, household items, eyeglasses, American flags, paper waste, and clothing to be safely and properly recycled.

Addabbo, who is a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, co-hosts this event with Assemblyman Miller each year in order to help residents not only protect the environment and recycle more, but to also provide them with an easy and secure way to recycle their electronics, household appliances and other goods.

During their Spring Recycling Event, Addabbo and Miller helped residents recycle 3.53 tons of paper and 28,390 pounds of unwanted electronics.

“This is one of my favorite events to host, and it is constantly one of our most popular events each year,” Addabbo said. “The recycling event allows residents to ensure that their electronics are properly recycled according to the Department of Sanitation rules and regulations, and that their documents are securely shredded and disposed of all at a central location right in their community. This is the perfect time for everyone to do some fall cleaning. I want to thank Assemblyman Miller for again partnering with my office on this event, all of our vendors for providing this service for our constituents, and the Parks Department for their help in coordinating this event.”

During the event, a paper shredder will be available that will allow residents to safely and securely recycle their documents as they watch to ensure confidentiality. However, pre-shredded paper will not be accepted for recycling.

The electronics that will be accepted include computers, monitors, cell phones, compact discs, PDAs, printers, batteries, cameras, lamps, mirrors, power strips, wires, chargers, cable boxes, fans, telephones, VCR tapes and small televisions (no large console or projection TVs).

Items that will NOT be accepted for recycling include: air conditioners, newspapers, gas/oil items, paints, mattresses, ovens, office furniture, firearms, vacuum cleaners, light bulbs, liquids, tires, or medication, among other items.

Household items to be accepted, including clothing, coats, bedding, paired shoes, dishes, silverware, lamps, curtains, American flags and eye glasses.

All donated items must be clean and dry.
