CLIFTON SPRINGS – Senator Pam Helming recently participated in the Reading With the Blue event, hosted by the Ontario County Police Benevolent Association at the Clifton Springs Library. Senator Helming read “Going On a Bear Hunt” to a group of children and their families, while OCPBA representative Donna Schaertl led the children on a bear hunt around the library. After Senator Helming read the story, the children walked around the library in search of stuffed bears that they could take home. With several New York State Troopers and Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies on hand for the event, the children learned how law enforcement officers can be their friends who are there for them when they need help. The event also helped promote the Libraries Rock! summer reading program going on at local libraries this summer.
“As a New York State Senator, I am a proud supporter of both our law enforcement officers and our local libraries. The Reading With the Blue event combined these forces in order to teach our children the importance of reading and learning as well as show them that police officers are there to help them and be their friends. It was a privilege to be a part of this event to support our police officers, our libraries, and our children. I enjoyed reading the story to them and also watching them go on a bear hunt. Thank you to Donna Schaertl and the Ontario County Police Benevolent Association for putting this event together, and thank you to the representatives of the New York State Troopers and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office who took part,” Senator Helming said.
