Senator Murphy Joins Teatown Supporters To Witness Historic Acreage Addition

Teatown, one of the largest and most active environmental education and science centers in the region, had cause to celebrate recently when they accepted the transfer of 245-acres from Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The property, considered the "heart of Teatown," will be protected from development in perpetuity by a conservation easement.

A long-time supporter of Teatown, Senator Terrence Murphy was on hand to congratulate and rejoice with Teatown's administration and staff as the deed to the land was signed over. In the past two years, Senator Murphy has partnered with Teatown to sponsor EagleFest, including free admission to the festival for veterans. He also secured $500,000 for a critically needed meadow restoration project at Croton Point Park, the winter home for bald eagles.

Senator Murphy said, "Teatown has always at the forefront of preserving the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley and teaching children to respect and protect our environment. The addition of this new land is a historical accomplishment, giving residents and visitors more of a good thing - more picturesque land for their exceptional education programs and events or just communing with nature."

Teatown is a 1,000-acre environmental education organization that includes an environmental education center, the Wildflower Island sanctuary, miles of hiking trails, open fields, woodlands and the 40-acre Teatown Lake. The acquisition of the new acreage from Brooklyn Botanical Garden will be crucial in Teatown's efforts to serve over 20,000 individuals per year with its unique environmental education programs.
