SENATOR BIAGGI ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE CLOSURE OF MOUNT VERNON HOSPITAL
October 25, 2019
WESTCHESTER, NY – Last week it was announced that Montefiore Health Systems would be closing down its Mount Vernon Hospital.
State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester) issued the following statement:
"I was born at Mount Vernon hospital, and like many district residents, hold the institution and its staff close to my heart. It is imperative that the approximately 68,000 New Yorkers living in Mount Vernon have access to emergency and quality healthcare services. It is unacceptable to take in-patient and surgery services away from Mount Vernon residents, and tell them to look elsewhere. It is no secret that the hospital has not been doing its best to serve the people, but the solution is not to just give up – the solution is to find alternative ways to improve the hospital and ensure that this community receives the quality healthcare services it deserves. I stand with the community and my fellow elected officials in calling for the Mount Vernon Hospital to remain open, and look forward to working together to build sustainable investments that will make it a success.”
