ALBANY, NY – Today, the New York State Senate, in partnership with the State Assembly, passed the strongest rent regulation bill in the State’s history. Nearing the last days of session, this is a major victory for tenants and renters across the state.

State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester), issued the following statement:

“For the first time in our state’s history, New York is giving tenants and renters the full protection they deserve. This legislation will expand housing protections to residents across the entire state, close loopholes in our current rent stabilization framework that have allowed landlords to abuse tenants, and most importantly, keep New Yorkers in their homes to build stronger neighborhoods. This victory wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible organizing and dedication of tenants and advocates across District 34 and the state, and the leadership of Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.”
