(Albany, NY) - Senator David Carlucci and the Senate Democratic Majority passed legislation (S.4024-B) to help New Yorkers navigate the STAR tax relief program.
The bill, co-sponsored by Carlucci, will create the Office of STAR Ombudsman, which New Yorkers can call with questions about the STAR rebate program.
“The STAR rebate program has offered New Yorkers $3.4 billion in relief from school property taxes annually,” said Senator David Carlucci. “We must support access to this program because it provides hardworking homeowners with real savings and relief. By creating an office dedicated to assisting homeowners with questions about the program, we will make things easier for homeowners and improve efficiency.”
The bill also establishes the STAR Credit Bill of Rights that will set standards for communications with taxpayers and improve the efficiency of providing the rebates to the recipients.
