Skoufis Earns Perfect 100% Score from NY League of Conservation Voters

Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) announced that he received a 100% score from the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV). Each year, NYLCV releases a state environmental scorecard, ranking legislators on their legislative history from that year’s session. 

The scores are based on bills that passed each legislator’s respective house of the legislature, grading them on whether or not the legislator took the “pro-environment” vote.

Bill S1673, the State Transportation Plan, introduced by Senator Skoufis, was one of the votes upon which NYLCV scored legislators. The bill holds the Department of Transportation accountable to a 20-year plan and ensures that the public has transparent access to the plan's progression. This bill passed both houses and will soon be sent to the Governor’s desk. Additionally, Skoufis was part of a small working group of legislators who developed the most aggressive climate change plan in the country, which has been enacted into state law.

Not only as a coastal state but as a duty to all generations, as we move forward, we must prioritize environmental policy first and foremost. He helped make 2019 one of the most pro-environment years in recent memory by sponsoring a bill that requires a State Transportation Plan and helping pass a nation-leading climate law. This score shows he listened to the voices of conservation voters in the Hudson Valley who asked him to make the environment a top priority.” 

Skoufis remains committed to implementing real action to combat environmental issues. Earlier this summer, Skoufis stood with local officials and environmental advocates to call on the Department of Health to implement stricter water standards for PFAS chemicals, and a week later, DOH announced they were accepting those lower standards.
