LOWVILLE– New York State Senate Deputy Minority Leader Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, today presented a New York State Senate Empire Award to the Lowville Producers Dairy Cooperative. The Empire Award honors businesses that are leaders in their industry, use innovative methods or products, increase jobs and economic growth and make significant community contributions that affect New York State.
The Lowville Producers Dairy Cooperative, which operates the Lowville Producers Cheese Store at 7396 Utica Boulevard in Lowville, began in 1936 and has been in business for over 75 years. The cooperative is made up of 136 dairy families in Upstate New York between the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and the Tug Hill Plateau and produces 1.1 million pounds of milk per day.
Cheese, fresh cheese curd, Lewis County maple syrup and Croghan Bologna are some of the local items offered at the cooperative's store.
“It is an honor to present the Lowville Producers Dairy Cooperative with a New York State Senate Empire Award,” Deputy Minority Leader Griffo said. “The cooperative plays an important role in the community and the region by selling and promoting local products and supporting farmers, producers and the agriculture industry throughout the region and the state.”
"We thank and appreciate Deputy Minority Leader Griffo for recognizing the Lowville Producers Dairy Cooperative with a New York State Senate Empire Award,” said Brien Tabolt, general manager of the cooperative. “Deputy Minority Leader Griffo has been supportive of our efforts to raise awareness about and increase access to locally made products and has been a strong advocate for the dairy community in Lewis County, the North Country and New York State."
