Brooklyn, NY - On Saturday, March 9th the sophisticated ladies of Eta Nu Sigma Brooklyn and Queens Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and New York State Senator Kevin Parker hosted the sorority’s annual Youth Symposium - “Mission Possible: A Safe Space for Our Youth” at Thomas S. Murphy Clubhouse Madison Square Boys and Girls Club located on Bedford Avenue.
“Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Alumnae Chapters around the globe, simultaneously, hosted our 22nd Annual Youth Symposium. We were excited to host here in Brooklyn! This year’s collaboration with State Senator Kevin Parker, the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club at Thomas S. Murphy Clubhouse, Agape Food Rescue and our local Sears/Kmart store connected participants with neighborhood resources. Financial literacy, bullying, nutrition and teen hot topics were the focus of this year’s symposium,” stated Kim O’Neale, the President of Eta Nu Sigma’s Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated.
Middle school students received education on financial literacy where information on budgeting, saving and understanding one’s finances were addressed. Older students had a platform to discuss topics that are relevant to them.
“It is important that elected officials and community organizations continue to come together and engage the youth in a positive way. I am proud to partner with my local Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority to bring their Annual Youth Symposium to students in my district. I am looking forward to partnering with their chapter for future events”, said Senator Kevin Parker.
Students walked away with backpacks and goodie bags filled with healthy snacks and water. The event concluded with the attendees exercising to the latest Soca music during their Zumba party to promote physical activity.
The sorority has been dedicated to service for more than 90 years. Members work to enhance the quality of life for their families, friends and neighbors, and are committed to “Greater Service, Greater Progress.”
