(Albany, NY) — Senator Kevin Thomas, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee, today announced the passage of legislation (S778A/Thomas) to restrict marketing practices that promote e-cigarette usage among young people, and to prevent manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of e-cigarettes from misrepresenting facts regarding the health consequences of e-cigarette usage.
Senator Kevin Thomas said, “New York must protect everyone, and especially our young people, from overexposure to a product whose long-term effects are unknown and has the potential to be harmful to their health. This legislation will put a stop to harmful marketing practices that promote e-cigarette usage among young people, and ensure that consumers have the facts when it comes to the potential health impacts of e-cigarette usage.
The Assembly version of the bill (A.6989/Darling) awaits review by the Consumer Affairs And Protection Committee.
