Griffo statement on potential toll increases
December 2, 2022
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, released the following statement today regarding an upcoming meeting of the New York State Thruway Authority Board of Directors that is expected to include a vote on toll increases:
“I am disappointed that the Thruway Authority Board of Directors is considering raising tolls on E-ZPass users by 5% and on non-E-ZPass users by 75% starting in 2024. With so many New Yorkers facing economic difficulties and struggling to provide for their families because of record inflation and other challenges and the authority continuing to confront systematic problems related to the implementation of cashless tolling, it is irresponsible for a group of unelected appointees to even think about toll increases at this time. I urge the authority, as well as the governor, to be sympathetic to the financial constraints of New Yorkers and their families presently and to do the right thing and reject these toll hikes.”
