Griffo statement on U.S. District Court Judgeship in Utica
November 29, 2022
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, released the following statement today regarding a recent report in the Albany Times-Union that U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s nominee to replace U.S. District Judge Hurd may be facing sanctions and is no longer in line for the judgeship:
“From the beginning, I have been very vocal about Sen. Gillibrand’s disingenuous attempt to steal a judgeship from the Mohawk Valley and move it to the Capitol District. Given this recent news, I am urging Sen. Gillibrand to finally do the right thing and nominate someone who actually lives in our region for this judgeship, which should have been done in the first place. I appreciate that Judge Hurd, who has served with distinction, has taken a strong stand on this issue and that he remains committed to ensuring that his replacement lives in and is from the greater Utica area.”
