Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) is acknowledging February as Career and Technical Education Month by highlighting legislation intended to better prepare students for jobs in technology-based fields.
Senator Gallivan is sponsoring several bills to support technical education and careers.
“We need to prepare students to compete in rapidly growing technology-based industries,” Senator Gallivan said. “By updating state education law and investing in these programs, we can help ensure New York’s workforce is well trained for the jobs of the future and ready to succeed.”
Senator Gallivan is sponsoring the following bills:
- S.1704 – legislation to allow English language learning students under-21-year-old to participate in approved employment preparation programs.
- S.1709 - legislation that makes permanent the ability of BOCES to serve and assist out-of-state school districts to generate additional revenue, benefiting their component school districts and the students they serve.
- S.2666A – (Co-sponsor) legislation that would enhance state aid qualification for career and technical education teachers to allow for expansion of CTE programs available to students.
All three bills have been sent to the Senate’s Education Committee for consideration.
