STATEN ISLAND, NY – Senator Scarcella-Spanton, who was sworn into office earlier this month, has officially passed her first bill in Albany. Senate Bill S1442 will introduce additional equipment requirements for stretch limousines. It will require that stretch limousines are equipped with the necessary quantity of window break tools and operational fire extinguishers.
“No one should have to question the safety of any vehicle traveling on our roadways. In the event of an accident, having window breaking tools and fire extinguishers will keep us safer. That’s why I’m proud to have passed this legislation today and why I’m committed to continuing to prioritize the safety of New Yorkers this session.” said Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, Chair of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee.
Limousines are almost exclusively used during celebrations of momentous occasions, and you never expect a celebration to turn into an emergency situation. The limousine crashes in Schoharie and Cutchogue, which at the time were some of the worst transportation-related disasters our country had seen, really highlighted the need for additional Limousine safety
