🧠Big News for Families Affected by Dementia and Alzheimer’s! đź§
I’m thrilled to announce the passage of Senate Bill 887, a transformative piece of legislation that I proudly sponsored. This bill aims to bring much-needed support to the over 400,000 New Yorkers living with Alzheimer’s and the 540,000 caregivers who care for them every day. As these numbers continue to rise, this bill will help ensure that those affected by these challenging conditions have the resources they need.
With SB887, we’re taking a major step forward by creating a centralized, state-level database of successful Dementia and Alzheimer’s programs, hosted on the State Office for the Aging (SOFA) website. This will be a game-changer for families and caregivers, providing them with easy access to proven strategies and best practices to improve the quality of life for their loved ones.
Why is this so important?
Alzheimer’s is not just a diagnosis—it’s a condition that deeply affects entire families and their caregivers. Many of these caregivers work around the clock, facing immense challenges as they support their loved ones. This new resource will give them the tools and confidence to find effective solutions and interventions, helping to ease the burden.
We must ensure that every family, no matter where they are in New York, has access to life-changing resources and proven approaches. This bill is a crucial step in that direction. Whether you’re looking for the best community programs, strategies for care, or support systems, this centralized database will be there to help.
