JOHNSON CITY, NY —Today, Senator Lea Webb proudly announced that she has secured $200,000 in state funding for essential infrastructure upgrades to the Johnson City Fire Department’s Station 1 at 270 Floral Avenue. These repairs will address crucial structural issues and ensure the building remains a safe and functional space for firefighters and the community they serve.
The funding will support necessary improvements, including structural repairs to the basement, which has been prone to water damage during rain or storm events. The project will also include waterproofing and reinforcing the top surface of the station, along with exterior repairs to prevent further deterioration. These upgrades are vital to maintaining a dry, secure environment for the department’s equipment and staff, allowing them to better serve the community in emergency situations. Station 1, located on the south side of Johnson City, is an essential hub for public safety in the Village, especially since the only other fire station is located on the north side.
“I am thrilled to have allocated this funding to help the Johnson City Fire Department,” said Senator Webb. “This fire station is a vital resource for the Village, and it is crucial that it remains structurally sound and equipped to meet the demands of our community. By investing in these critical repairs, we are not only protecting the firefighters and their equipment but also ensuring they can continue to provide rapid and reliable emergency services for years to come. I am committed to investing in and supporting our public safety departments so that they have the resources they need to protect us.”
“We are grateful to Senator Webb for securing this much-needed funding for Station 1,” said Mayor Martin Meaney. “These critical upgrades will ensure our firefighters have a safe, reliable facility to operate from, allowing them to continue serving our community effectively. The safety of our residents depends on having a strong, well-supported fire department, and this investment reinforces our shared commitment to public safety in Johnson City. These much-needed funds secured by Senator Webb saved the Johnson City tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars. The partnerships between State and Local Governments are essential for the continued success of Local government. We thank Senator Webb for being a great partner!”
