Ithaca, NY – Today, Senator Lea Webb announced the allocation of $300,000 in state funding to enhance Cass Park in Ithaca. This funding will support essential capital projects, including bathroom renovations and improvements to the park’s cold storage facilities.
Senator Webb's commitment to improving local infrastructure is evident in her dedication to enhancing the quality of community spaces. Cass Park is a beloved green space managed by the Ithaca Youth Bureau, which provides numerous health and recreational programs to the residents of Ithaca and Tompkins County. Its extensive facilities include thirty-two athletic fields, two playgrounds, four outdoor tennis courts, and scenic waterfront fitness trails. These improvements will significantly enhance the park's accessibility and the overall visitor experience.
"I am thrilled to have secured this significant funding for Cass Park," said Senator Lea Webb. "For over half a century, this cherished park has fostered community health and well-being, offering a wide array of sports, recreational activities, and year-round events that cater to all ages. I am proud to support these necessary renovations and upgrades to help ensure this park continues to serve as a vibrant hub for recreation and community engagement for future generations."
“On behalf of the City of Ithaca, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Senator Webb for her investment in place-making and recreation for families and especially our children,” Said City of Ithaca Mayor Robert Cantelmo. “With this important funding, Senator Webb puts us one step closer to realizing a fully modernized Cass Park that meets the needs of our community.”
Said Greggory Houck, Director of the Ithaca Youth Bureau, “The Youth Bureau is grateful to Senator Webb for her continued advocacy for local projects that support both youth and the community at large. Our City parks play an important role in promoting health through recreation and with the Senator's support, we are one step closer to achieving our goal of fully renovating Cass Park's aging infrastructure for the benefit of our residents.”
