Senator Webb Presents Awards to Community Leaders in Honor of Black History Month

(Binghamton, NY) – In a heartfelt ceremony held today, Senator Webb honored Black community leaders from the Southern Tier in recognition of Black History Month. This celebration, marked by the presentation of three official awards from the New York State Senate, underscores the vital contributions and achievements of Black individuals and businesses in the community.
The recipients of this year's awards are individuals and businesses who have made remarkable impacts in their fields and communities. Senator Webb presented two Commendation Awards and one Empire Award, celebrating the spirit of community, philanthropy, leadership, and significant contributions to the local community.
Senator Webb stated, "Today, we honor the luminaries among us who not only lead with vision and dedication but also inspire future generations to pursue excellence. Mr. Tyrone Muse, Mr. Amos Malone, and Ms. Brenda Cave James embody the spirit of service, leadership, and entrepreneurial success. Their contributions are not just milestones but beacons of hope and progress in our ongoing journey toward equality and inclusivity. As we celebrate Black History Month, let us all commit to supporting and uplifting the voices and achievements of the Black community, recognizing our indispensable role in weaving the rich fabric of our society."
The awards were presented to:
- Mr. Tyrone Muse, also a recipient of a NYS Senate Commendation Award, is the President & CEO of Visions Federal Credit Union. His leadership, characterized by positivity and encouragement, has significantly contributed to the economic development of the Southern Tier. Mr. Muse's active participation on numerous community boards and advisory councils nationwide further exemplifies his commitment to his community.
- Mr. Amos Malone, owner of The Legacy in Tompkins County, was awarded the NYS Senate Empire Award. His establishment, The Legacy, marks a historic milestone as the first Black-owned business at the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport. The Legacy is celebrated for its commitment to tradition, innovation, and inclusivity, offering a unique dining experience that honors the legacy of Black entrepreneurship.
- Ms. Brenda Cave James, recipient of a NYS Senate Commendation Award, is celebrated for her lifetime of extraordinary service to others. Her dedication to preserving and promoting the rich history of Broome County has made her an indispensable member of the community and a deserving recipient of this honor.
This ceremony not only highlights the achievements of these distinguished individuals and businesses but also serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and celebrating Black excellence not only during Black History Month but throughout the year.
