ALBANY, NY - “I was pleased to hear support for many of my priorities in the Governor’s State of the State Address today, including additional resources for survivors of domestic violence, big investments in mental health resources and sorely needed school-based mental health care. While I am happy to see the Governor’s priorities including adding to our housing stock, we must also enact protections for renters and ensure that housing is truly affordable for all New Yorkers. As Chair of the Senate’s Women’s Issues Committee, I was especially encouraged to hear the Governor’s support for our ongoing efforts to reduce infant & maternal mortality and her plans to decrease the drowning rates for New York children by ensuring equitable access to swimming. And with utility bills on the rise, I was glad to hear support for the NY HEAT Act, an energy policy that will help us meet our climate goals while lowering New Yorkers utility bills. Make no mistake, we have much work to do over the next months, especially on issues of housing, childcare, and other important policies. I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver a final budget that meets the challenges facing my constituents in the Southern Tier.”
