Senator Gallivan Named to the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) has been named to the New York State Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, a joint bipartisan panel of the state legislature with a mission to promote the viability of rural communities.  Senator Gallivan’s appointment to the commission fills a seat vacated by Senator Mark Walczyk, a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, who is being deployed to Kuwait for nine months.

“Rural communities, including those within the district I represent, play an important role in the state’s economy and culture, but they also face unique challenges,” Senator Gallivan said. “I am anxious to work with my colleagues to promote agriculture, land preservation and economic development opportunities in rural communities across New York and to advocate for adequate health care, high speed broadband and other vital services.”

The Legislative Commission on Rural Resources is composed of members from both the Senate and the Assembly and is Albany's only independent body focused on the needs of rural New York. The commission makes recommendations to the legislature on policies and programs intended to promote and protect the state’s rural resources. 

Senator Gallivan also serves as the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Health and the Crime Victims, Crime & Correction committee.  He is a member of the committees on Finance; Transportation; Rules; Codes; and the Joint Task Force on Opioids, Addiction and Overdose Prevention.
