AMHERST, N.Y. – Today, June 27, 2024, New York State Senator Sean Ryan announced that Life is Succulent has been selected as the 61st Senate District Small Business of the Month for June. Senator Ryan will present the store’s owner with a New York State Senate Empire Award in recognition of the store’s contributions to the Western New York community.
Since 2019, Life is Succulent has specialized in houseplants and eco-friendly products made using sustainable practices, including garden accessories, jewelry, and home decor. They offer many handmade and small batch products, including some created by local artists.
The store strives to partner with other small businesses that share their values, and they donate a portion of their profits to charitable causes. In addition to selling local products, Life is Succulent works to engage the community, hosting regular workshops in plant care, plant arranging, and pot painting. They also offer affordable event space and host community events of their own year-round. This month, they hosted a two-day outdoor Pride Market to celebrate the local LGBTQ+ community and a “Grown-Up Book Fair” featuring local independent book stores and other local vendors.
Senator Ryan will continue to highlight businesses that deserve special recognition for their contributions to the Western New York community throughout 2024. To nominate a business for the July award, individuals should fill out the nomination form here or at ryan.nysenate.gov by Sunday, July 14.
