February 11, 2025
(Binghamton, NY) Today, Senator Webb (SD52) announced more than $2.8 million in state funding to strengthen the State’s emergency response and communications systems. These grants will assist counties as they buy new equipment, upgrade their technology, improve training, and develop Next Generation 911 technologies.
“In rural communities like ours, it is imperative that our first responders have modern and robust emergency response and communication systems,” said Senator Lea Webb. “These funds will ensure that local dispatchers have the technology and training needed to keep our communities safe.”
The grants are administered by the New York State Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant (SICG) program and the Public Safety Answering Point Operations Grant (PSAP):
Senate District 52 received the following funding through the State Interoperable Communications Formula Grant (SICG-Formula):
- $890,183 for Broome County
- $786,336 for Cortland County
- $627,501 for Tompkins County
Senate District 52 received the following funding through the Public Safety Answering Point Operations Grant (PSAP):
- $221,995 for Broome County
- $194,635 for Cortland County
- $136,192 for Tompkins County
The State Interoperable Communications Formula Grant (SICG-Formula) is designed to minimize gaps in interoperable communications by aligning technology acquisitions with its operational use by first responders.
The Public Safety Answering Point Operations Grant (PSAP) supports existing operations across New York, to encourage the development of Next Generation 911 (NG911) technologies, and to promote collaboration between counties and state agencies.
