Senator Lea Webb Announces State Funding to Support the Installation of Electric Vehicle Chargers in the Town of Danby

(Binghamton, NY) Today, Senator Webb (SD52) announced $11,400 in state funding to support the installation of two Level 2 charging ports in the Town of Danby. as part of the State’s Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Infrastructure Grants program. 

“As we continue to celebrate Earth Month, I am thrilled to see the Town of Danby receive this state funding to support community access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” said Senator Lea Webb. “New York is committed to making the transition to clean transportation more accessible to our rural communities. I commend the municipal leaders in Danby for making it easier for their neighbors to charge their electric vehicles and do their part to address the climate crisis.” 

Said Joel Gagnon, Danby Town Supervisor, “Because rural areas are “charging deserts” due to limited vehicle traffic, supporting the transition to electric vehicles is challenging. This grant provides the critical funding to make Danby’s installation financially feasible. The charging ports, to be installed at the town hall, will serve not only the town’s facility but also nearby parks and businesses. We are pleased to be able to encourage the transition from fossil fueled to electric vehicles, an important part of reducing carbon emissions.” 

The Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Infrastructure Grants program is administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). This program prioritizes clean transportation investments in communities most affected by pollution and climate change. The program includes a variable local match requirement based on the municipality’s median household income (MHI) and whether the ZEV infrastructure is located in a disadvantaged community.
