SENATOR WALCZYK REACTS TO HOCHULS'S $252 BILLION BUDGET PROPOSAL
January 21, 2025
"Earlier today, Governor Hochul unveiled a record $252 billion budget; increasing state spending over last year by 8.3%. She's raised the cost of government by 16% since taking office. If you could spend your way into affordability, New York would be the most affordable state in the union - we're not.
The Governor claims that her policies, including the inflation check gimmick, would put '$5,000 back in New Yorkers' pockets.' But, taking money out of your right pocket and putting less in your left pocket won't save you a dime.
She's right that we need to cut taxes for the middle class but those cuts should be born from spending cuts, not more borrowing which just guarantees the next generation won't be able to afford to pay the tab, or live here at all.
Hochul says she's going to put $50 million into creating more swimming pools... affordability?
Hochul's proposing $1 billion for New York's 'Green New Deal' initiatives; investing your tax money in wind and solar projects is completely out of touch with reality and will only increase the cost of energy in our state... affordability?
This $252 billion state budget proposal is bigger than the budgets of Florida and Texas combined - both states with larger populations than New York. She's proposed the second highest per capita state spending plan in the nation. You cannot tax and spend your way into affordability and while there's plenty of valuable services our state provides residents, I will continue to push back on government waste and this reckless plan."
