Audubon New York To Honor Senator Nozzolio

Michael F. Nozzolio

Albany— State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio will be honored by Audubon New York at an upcoming ceremony in recognition of his commitment and leadership in the development of the Montezuma Audubon Center. Senator Nozzolio will receive the award and speak at the Audubon New York event, to be held at the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles on June 27th at 5:30pm.

“It is an honor to be recognized by Audubon New York with this prestigious award,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The recent opening of the Montezuma Audubon Center was the culmination of years of hard work and I applaud everybody that worked on the project for their dedication to the project. It is a pleasure to be a partner with Audubon New York and I look forward to a continued strong relationship in our joint efforts to conserve precious habitats and wildlife for future generations.”

The Montezuma Audubon Center opened its doors to the public in May and allows visitors the opportunity to learn about and experience freshwater wetlands. The Center is sited adjacent to two reclaimed marshes, open meadows, upland forest, seasonally flooded forest and a natural lake and features exhibits highlighting the biodiversity found throughout the area. Senator Nozzolio was instrumental in providing State support to establish the Center.

The Montezuma wetlands have been recognized as an Important Bird Area by Audubon New York, and a State Bird Conservation Area for its critical importance to migrating water birds. The Montezuma Audubon Center provides public access, research, education, and incredible wildlife-related recreation opportunities.
