STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It was a celebration 10 years in the making.
Thursday afternoon Port Richmond High School officially cut the ribbon on its completely revamped athletic complex in front of an entire student body which was still in middle school when they broke ground in 2019.
“It’s hard to believe that this day is finally here after four and a half years and nearly $20 million we are looking at the most impressive athletic complex on the borough of Staten Island,” said Principal Andrew Greenfield. (Later Thursday, the Red Raiders dropped the first football game at the new complex, falling 33-24 to visiting New Utrecht.)
In attendance were a couple dozen dignitaries, including Councilman David Carr (R-Mid-Island), State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, Director of Professional Development & Special Projects at PSAL Daniel Harris and Assemblyman Charles Fall (D-North Shore/Battery Park). Fall in particular was commended for his contributions to the project, with his office finding funding several unforeseen expenses that arose from construction.
