First HBCU Family Day on Staten Island marked with music, book read-alouds, performances

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island residents were able to learn about opportunities to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) while also having a family day of fun that included arts and crafts, step performances, and a book reading during the first-ever HBCU Family Day in New Brighton on Saturday.

The event was hosted with partners from the New York Center for Interpersonal Development (NYCID), P.A.T.H. Forward, Staten Island Urban Center, Friends Who Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness, Eric Initiative Foundation, the New York City Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes, the Staten Island Foundation, the NAACP Staten Island Youth Council and more partners. Additionally, Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D-North Shore/South Brooklyn) attended the event to show her support.
