N.Y.S. Senators To Meet With The Governor of Puerto Rico

Senator Malcolm Smith, Majority Leader of the State Senate, together with Senators: Rev. Ruben Diaz, Martin M. Dilan, Pedro Espada Jr., and Hiram Monserrate, will travel to Puerto Rico to complete a series of meetings with elected officials and discuss topics of importance, not only for the Puerto Rican’s and Hispanics, but for every resident of the State of NewYork.

Among the topics to be discussed is the nursing crisis in the State, establishing  intergovernmental ties between both governments and the impact of Public Law 7, and its possible layoff of 30,000 public employees in Puerto Rico and the effects this may have on our communities.

This visit has been coordinated by the NYS Senate Puerto Rican and Latino Caucus, presided by Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz.

The scheduled agenda for this visit is:

Thursday, April 30th:

7:30 p.m………Welcoming reception in Bayamon, hosted by the Hon. Ramon Luis Rivera Jr., Mayor of Bayamon P.R.

Friday, May 1st :

8:30 a.m…….. Breakfast reception with officials from the Public Employees Federation Union of Puerto Rico in the Caribe Hilton Hotel.

10:30 a.m……. Meeting with the President of the House of Representatives of P.R., the Hon. Jennifer Gonzalez, in the Capitol of P.R.

2:30 p.m…….. Meeting with the Hon. Luis Fortuño, Governor of Puerto Rico in The Fortaleza, San Juan, PR.

Sataurday, May 2nd:

10:30 p.m……. Meeting with the President of the Senate of Puerto Rico, the Hon. Thomas Rivera Schatz in the Capitol, San Juan, PR.

4:00 p.m………Farewell social reception hosted by family members of Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz.

Sunday May 3rd:

Return to New York.
