Senator Brooks rolls out legislation aimed to protect New Yorkers voting rights

(Albany, NY)- Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8) has announced several bills, as part of a legislative agenda, which would protect New Yorkers voting rights and make the polls more openly accessible to voters in New York State. These bills are part of the Senate Democratic ‘Resistance Agenda’ designed to protect voting rights and improve the voting process in New York.

New York’s voter turnout is one of the nation’s worst, and on the state level, the Senate Republican Majority has repeatedly blocked voting reform efforts such as early voting and same day registration. 

“Government can never truly represent the people if citizens don’t have the opportunity to have their voices heard at the voting booth. It is important that we make voting as openly accessible as possible. As our most sacred and fundamental rightas Americans, voting should be made easier, instead of harder,” said Senator Brooks. 

Senator Brooks continued, “The more options we provide for Americans to vote, the more representative our government will be of the people. In my race, as well as the Presidential race, the importance of each and every vote was demonstrated.”

• Early voting – S.2950  
• Consolidation of federal and state primaries – S.3562
• The Voter Empowerment Act – S.3304
