Senator Mario Mattera: Liberating New York for a Safer, More Affordable Future
January 14, 2025
This week, I stood alongside Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt and my colleagues to unveil our Liberate New York legislative agenda for 2025—a bold, comprehensive plan to combat the devastating effects of Albany’s radical policies. For too long, one-party rule has left Long Islanders and New Yorkers across the state struggling with rising costs, declining safety, and policies that erode our freedoms.
Our agenda is focused on delivering solutions that New Yorkers desperately need to rebuild a state that is safer, more affordable, and filled with opportunity. As Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt said, “The Democrat establishment has prioritized their political agenda over hardworking New Yorkers, leading to high crime, skyrocketing taxes, and a mass exodus of residents. It’s time for common sense to return to Albany.”
The Liberate New York plan prioritizes five key areas:
1. Provide Affordability and Economic Opportunity: We’ll cut taxes for residents and small businesses, make housing more affordable, and protect New York’s farmers from overregulation.
2. Create a Safer, Healthier New York: We’ll reverse disastrous criminal justice policies like cashless bail, combat the rise in hate crimes, and address the mental health and substance abuse crises plaguing our state.
3. End the Migrant Crisis: New Yorkers should not bear the financial burden of Albany’s sanctuary state policies. Our plan will ensure taxpayer dollars are spent on residents, not illegal migrants.
4. Protect Students and Defend Parental Rights: Parents deserve a say in their children’s education and safety. Our agenda will empower parents, protect girls’ sports, and expand mental health services in schools.
5. Call for Government Accountability: We’ll enact term limits, push for voter ID laws, and investigate wasteful spending, like the state’s congestion pricing scheme.
“New Yorkers deserve leadership that prioritizes their needs, not political games,” I said during the press conference. “Our plan is a roadmap to restore hope and opportunity to every corner of our state, including Long Island.”
